My S2 Bullet

Last summer I sold my 1984 Squire Bullet and bought
an American S2 Bullet. Here’s a picture:
I was in a rush when I picked it up. I noticed the neck pickup sounded a little thin but I didn’t have time to haggle. After getting home, playing a bit and inspecting the insides I realized that the neck pickup was shot. It was only putting out treble frequencies. If I rolled off the tone knob to the bass end the pickup was just about inaudible, while the bridge pickup still had plenty of output.
I have some Lindy Fralins in my Strat and my Fender Jazz and I like the sound of both so I decided to replace both pickups with Fralins. It was a huge improvement. I hate to replace something on a stock guitar, but a dead pickup is bad news.
The neck was a bit too straight so I tried to adjust the truss rod to give it some relief but it’s still buzzing a bit with the truss rod as loose as it gets. The neck probably needs a shim. I might have to splurge for a professional setup.
All said, it’s a pretty cool guitar. I’ve wanted a Bullet with that weird original body style for a while. The color combination is not my favorite, but it’s actually grown on me.
